How to scan a QR code on Android
Most Android phones can scan a QR code without installing anything. The best method depends on whether the code is in front of you or already saved on your phone.
Use the Camera app
Open the Camera app and point the rear camera at the QR code, keeping the full square inside the frame. On most Android phones, a notification appears with the link or action. If nothing happens, open the camera settings and look for a Scan QR codes toggle.
Use Quick Settings, Google Lens, or Circle to Search
Many Android phones include a QR scanner in Quick Settings. Swipe down twice from the top of the screen and look for a QR or scanner icon. If your camera does not recognise the code, Google Lens can read it from the Camera or Google app.
On newer phones with Circle to Search, press and hold the home button or navigation gesture, then circle the QR code on screen. This is useful for codes inside messages, emails, and webpages without taking a screenshot first.
Scan a saved image or screenshot
Pointing the camera at your own screen is unreliable. Open the image and use Circle to Search if it is available, or upload the image to scan QR. Upload Image reads the file from your gallery and shows the destination before you open it.
Samsung, Pixel, and other Android phones
Names differ by manufacturer, but the methods are the same. Samsung Galaxy phones usually label the Quick Settings option Scan QR code. Pixel phones rely on Google Lens and may include Circle to Search. Google Lens is the dependable fallback on most recent Android versions.
If the code will not scan
Move closer until the code fills more of the frame, avoid glare, and keep the phone steady and parallel to the code. For a damaged or small code, try uploading a clearer photo instead of scanning live.
